Essential Aims and Content
- CPR on adults and children
- Recognition of common medical emergencies
- Emergency drugs and equipment
- Emergency planning
- Using a defibrillator
Expected Objectives and Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will have an understanding of and be competent in:
- carrying out a medical risk assessment and develop an emergency plan
- discuss the use and method of delivery of the emergency drugs kept in the dental practice
- discuss how to use the emergency equipment
- the ABCDE approach to a medical emergency
- Dealing with specific medical emergencies including:
- Asthma
- Anaphylaxis – including use of the Epi-Pen Autoinjector
- Heart Attack and Sudden Cardiac Arrest
- Epilepsy
- Stroke
- Diabetic Emergencies
- Choking
- Syncope
- Unconsciousness and recovery position in the chair
- CPR on adults and children
- Use of an Automated External Defibrillator
Course Information
Our Basic Life Support and Dental Medical Emergencies course is currently undergoing accreditation by the Royal College of Surgeons. Certificates issued will confirm the verifiable CPD hours. All clinical and non clinical staff can be involved in the training. Training is carried out in-house at your surgery .All trainers are CPD checked and fully certified.
